Emoji Charades – Guess 300+ Emojis
Instead of physically acting out a charades word or phrase, challenge your team or opponents to decode the word or phrase represented by emojis. Guess from over 300 unique emoji clues grouped into categories such as animals, food, movies, home, nature, and music, among others, for easy choosing.
What is Emoji Charades?
Charades is a word or phrase guessing game where one person acts out a clue/word while their teammates try to figure out what it is. Based on the actions and gestures performed, the rest of the group calls out guesses until they land on the correct word or phrase.
In our Emoji Charades, we’ve eliminated the acting part — the emojis do the acting, literally. Instead of physically acting out a word or phrase, the challenger (or challenging team) simply displays an emoji or a set of emojis, and the other team has to decode the word or phrase those emojis represent.
While this version deviates slightly from traditional charades gameplay, it’s a fun way to add variety to your charades game. It’s also a cool, modern twist that helps break the ice and gets everyone involved.
To make it even more fun, consider adding a timer so players have a set amount of time to guess what each Emoji Charades card represents. Here’s our custom charades timer you can use. You can also award points for correct guesses, so the participant(s) with the most points at the end of the game wins.
If you need more unique charades versions, try Reverse Charades, an interesting twist on the traditional charades game where the roles are flipped. Instead of one person acting while the team guesses, the entire team acts out the word or phrase together, and one player does the guessing.
How To Play The Emoji Charades
We have designed the generator to be intuitive and user-friendly. Here’s how some of the features we have included works:
Choosing Categories: At the top of the screen, you’ll find the category selector labeled “CHOOSE.” You can choose from specific categories like Animals & Wildlife, Movies & TV, Food & Drink, Careers & Jobs, Sports & Games, Travel & Transport, Home & Daily Life, Nature & Weather, Music & Arts, and Holidays & Traditions. Each category contains 26–42 unique emoji phrases, giving you over 300 total charades to act out. The current category and total phrase count are displayed in real time.
Playing the Card: Guess & Reveal: Each charade is presented as a large, flip-style card. The front of the card shows only the emoji sequence—no text, no answers. You guess the phrase based on the emojis. The back of the card reveals the answer phrase in bold text, along with the same emojis for reference. Tap anywhere on the card (or click it) to flip it over and see the answer. You can also use the “REVEAL” button to flip to the answer, and the “HIDE” button to flip back and keep guessing. The smooth flip animation makes it feel like a real flashcard game.
Navigating Between Charades: Below the card, you’ll find the Previous and Next buttons. Use “PREV” to go back to the previous charade or “NEXT” to advance to the next one. The counter in the center shows your current position (e.g., ???? 12/35). You can also use your keyboard’s left and right arrow keys to navigate between charades. The spacebar (or tap on the card) flips the card instantly.
Category Badge & Progress: At the top left, the category badge displays which category you are currently playing (e.g., ???? ANIMALS). Next to it, a compact counter shows the total number of phrases available in that category. As you switch categories, the badge, counter, and card content update automatically—so you never lose your place.
Keyboard & Tap Shortcuts: For power users, we’ve included keyboard navigation: ◀ LEFT ARROW goes to the previous charade, ▶ RIGHT ARROW goes to the next, and the SPACEBAR flips the card. On mobile, simply tap the card to flip—no need to hunt for tiny buttons.
